When substance abuse shows up at the workplace, you know things are bad, because work is often the last thing to go bad, especially for high achievers.
I’ve done many interventions on people whose lives were in utter chaos in most aspects, but who were still functioning well at work. So, typically, when alcoholism or addiction starts to impact employment, you know the problem is severe. Believe it or not, the workplace is actually location for many of my interventions. Concerned employers who are invested in helping valued team members know that the threat of job loss, if presented effectively, will often be the leverage necessary to convince a substance abuser to get the help he needs.

He was allegedly impaired during a recent game against Arizona State, and also during a recent pep rally. He has taken a leave of absence but it may be too little, too late for him.
